How to Keep a Wine Collection Organized?

You don’t need to worry about organization and storage when your wine collection is small. It’s easy to keep track of the age and flavors of 10 to 20 bottles. However, poor organization and storage becomes a real problem as your wine collection grows. It’s very difficult to keep track of several dozens or even hundreds of bottles you’ve collected over time.

If you have a well-planned system already in place, you won’t have to worry about recognizing hundreds of bottles at the same time. That’s why it’s a good idea to have a good storage and organization system from the outset. Here are some tips that will help you keep your wine collection organized:

1. Assign Rows Based on the Type of Wine

Most collectors will have a diverse collection of wines in their cellar. It’s a good idea to assign different rows to different wine types. You can assign a set of rows each to reds, whites, sparkling wines, desert wines, and rose wines. You will know where you can find a particular wine immediately if you have different types grouped together.

2. Organize According to Grape Varietals

You can then organize each section into different grape varietals. For example, you can organize your red wine section into rows of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Bordeaux, Pinot Noir, etc. Similarly, you can organize your white wine section into rows of Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Riesling, etc.

3. Label Everything

The final step is to label everything. You can purchase custom labels online and write everything including the name, vintage, notes and flavors, and food parings on the labels and place them on the bottles. You will have all the information you need to know about a particular wine the moment you read the label.

These steps will help you keep your wine collection organized and you won’t have to sort through dozens of bottles to find the one you want to drink .
